After reading this article, it revealed to me I have experienced people just trying to sell their services. If you can build relationships, then you can have a productive business relationship as well. If your a new business owner, you can get influenced by some business owners that do not want to build relationships.
They just want to build their sales. Do not be influenced by these business owners.

Your business cards are everything. People should look at their business card in the same light as you do in regards to personal appearance and positioning during first impressions. In my opinion, same concept with the same type of reaction. For example, I never take a guy seriously that says his business is doing very very well but his card he hands me either has perforated edges or looks like he did it on his $100 home ink-jet printer.

To top it off, in the past, I was a member of a group that "for what ever reasons" opted to stop passing business cards during the meeting to guest and members to attempt to save more time during the meeting. I dropped the group for many other reasons but NOT being able to pass business cards to people was the MAIN reason I let it go.

And not having any cards at a network function or gathering is just as BAD!

Your business card image and Presentation is everything!

Excellent article James. I lead a careers in transition group that I will forward this to.
We focus a lot of attention on making the elevator speech hit the main points, but this article teaches the value of taking that information and making it relevant.

Thanks
John

Thanks for the post. I don't understand why sooo many people underestimate the importance of their business card. If I get a flimsy, P.O.S. card in my pocket, it goes in the trash rather quickly. I tend to keep the more professional, different or "cool" looking cards for a long time. I think on a subconscious level your brain is thinking, "Low-quality cards = Low-quality business."

I would definitely recommend Mondo Print for business cards. They offer several stocks and coating options. It's all full-color, high-quality stuff. They also are very inexpensive. You can check them out here: http://www.mondoprint.com

Amen! I never used Vista Print, though the cost was certainly appealing. With a background in digital pre-press and years of layout and design under my belt, I started out making my own cards (cutting them down with an X-acto knife). They weren't horrible (far from it). They were even somewhat memorable, though possibly for the wrong reasons.

"Stepping up my game" with professionally designed business cards has been an amazing experience. Bold cards featuring dynamic branding and high-quality flourishes like thick card stock, vibrant colors, spot gloss and rounded corners get immediate attention and make a lasting impression. I even had one recent networking contact tell me she complained to her boss that I had nicer cards than she did, and she works for one of the largest real estate firms in the country!

First impressions are hugely important. I'm grateful to Loving Consulting for helping me, and Empowering Massage make not only a great first impression, but a lasting one.
